Follow-up instructions for chemotherapy current patients

If your pet has been treated with a chemotherapeutic/immunotherapeutic agentyour pet may experience the following side effects:

Nausea , Anorexia, Vomiting, Depression, Listlessness, Diarrhea, Mild hair loss (whiskers), Shedding, Increased drinking, urination, or appetite

Though drug reactions are infrequent your pet may have been prescribed an antinausea medication to help control nausea if your pet should experience this problem. Please give as directed. If your pet has mild nausea, vomiting or diarrhea - stop food for 24 hours and give small amounts of water or ice cubes every 30 minutes. A bland diet of boiled chicken and rice is recommended after 24 hours of fasting. If vomiting and/or diarrhea is severe, persistent or bloody, please contact our office.

If you have an emergency off work hours, and have a pet which is a patient of one of our offices, please call the emergency beeper at 215-980-0476 and enter in your area code and telephone number.

If the medication Cytoxan was prescribed, it may cause urinary bladder irritation. It is preferable to administer it in the morning. Be sure your pet has access to water and is walked often (or that our feline patients have access to a litter box).

Please follow-up as instructed by your discharge instructions. If your pet has follow-up blood or diagnostic work done at the local veterinarian, please phone the results to West Chester: 610-692-6272 or FAX them to 610-696-4635 or Chalfont: 215-822-8225 or FAX them to 215-822-8235.

Follow-up instructions for radiation patients

Though reactions are infrequent, your pet may experience the following side effects:

Coughing/Throat Irritation Due to Intubation, Swelling, Fatigue, Discharge, Hair Loss in Treated Area, or Redness

If you notice any dramatic changes in your pet or in the treated area, please contact our Chalfont office 215-822-8225or our West Chester office at 610-692-6272 (Sat. morning only). If you have an emergency during off-work hours, please call the emergency beeper number at 215-980-0476 and punch in your area code and phone number after you hear the long beep.
